GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper peptide complex found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. It was first isolated in 1973 and has since been the subject of extensive research examining its role in wound healing, collagen synthesis, and tissue remodeling processes.

What Is GHK-Cu?

GHK (Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine) is a tripeptide with a high affinity for copper ions. The GHK-Cu complex forms naturally in the body and has been found to decrease significantly with age — plasma levels in 60-year-olds are reported to be approximately three times lower than in 20-year-olds. This age-related decline has generated research interest in the peptide’s role in the biology of aging tissue.

Collagen synthesis research has produced foundational findings around GHK-Cu. Studies have examined its apparent ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production in fibroblast cell cultures, with researchers investigating the signaling pathways through which it affects extracellular matrix production.
